Approach
Trust is the whole of it
Every patient decision rests on trust, and in dentistry more than most. Someone is deciding whether to let a stranger do irreversible work on their body, often at a fee they can't easily compare to anything else. They can't assess your clinical skill. They can't judge your materials. What they can assess is whether you seem to know what you're talking about, and whether you're being straight with them. They usually make that judgement before they ever call. Everything I do is aimed at that judgement.
Marketing that doesn't look like marketing
Most dental marketing works by making a claim and attaching an offer. It's effective at producing enquiries, and it's why a lot of careful practitioners stopped marketing at all — the claims are restricted, the offers feel wrong, and the whole register sits badly against the way they actually practise.
I write positioning articles instead. They read like ordinary patient education, because that's what they are: real answers to questions patients genuinely have. What makes them different is that they're built so that answering establishes who the practitioner is and what they stand for.
The patient gets something useful whether or not they ever book. That's not a concession —it's the mechanism. Generosity that expects nothing is the only kind that reads as genuine, and it can't be faked convincingly.
The TRUST method
T — Target the real problem.
Not the treatment you'd like to fill. The thing they actually lie awake about: pain, bleeding gums, recurring decay — and the growing suspicion that what's happening in their mouth is connected to why they haven't felt well in years.
R — Resolve it honestly.
Answer that question properly and for free, with nothing attached. No gate, no offer, no sequence pretending to be helpful. If the answer is "this probably isn't your problem," say that.
U — Uncover the next problem.
They arrive with the symptom. Explaining it honestly means revealing what's underneath — a problem they didn't know they had. That's what they book for. Nobody had to sell them anything.
S — Sequence the education.
Start where their attention already is — the top-of-mind problem (symptom) they're searching for. Explain it, reveal what's underneath, and the underlying problem becomes the next piece's starting point. Repeat, and someone moves from a single complaint to understanding how their mouth and their body connect.
T — Trust arrives before the patient does.
By the time they contact you, they've read an explanation of their problem clearer than any they've had. It came from you. That's where the trust comes from — not from being told you're good, but from the experience of finally being understood.
The article is the filter
The patients a biological practice wants are already searching. They know something is wrong and they're looking for information, not for a deal. They've usually already read widely on health. That search is the filter. Nobody hunting a discount types those questions into a search bar. The people who do are asking what's best for their body, and they land on the article because it answers that question.
These patients aren't easier. They ask more questions, not fewer, and they want the reasoning, not the recommendation. But they arrived on trust, and trust doesn't transfer. Once someone understands their own situation, there's nothing left to comparison-shop — health isn't a car, where the same model sits in three showrooms. The problem is particular to them, so the solution is too. Price comes up eventually, but it was never the question they were asking.
No offers. No claims. No pressure.
This method has nothing to discount, no outcome promised, no testimonial required, and no before-and-after needed. It works by explaining — which happens to be the one thing the advertising rules don't restrict.
That isn't a compliance service. It's what the method looks like when someone who learned the rules the hard way builds it. [How I learned them →]
